What is an energy performance certificate?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC for short) is a short document which sets out the energy efficiency of a property on a traffic light system of A to G – A being the most efficient.
An EPC provides an indication of how much it will cost to heat and power a property allowing members of the public who may be thinking of buying or renting your property to get an idea of how expensive (or not) it will be to live there, in exactly the same way that customers buying fridges or other electrical appliances such as vacuum cleaners can get an idea of how energy efficient the device is by consulting the energy performance rating on the packaging.
The energy performance certificate takes the form of a report that includes recommendations of energy-efficient improvements, the cost of carrying them out, and the potential savings in pounds and pence that each one could generate.
If you are a landlord you need your property to have a minimum energy performance rating of “E,” before you can let it, if your property falls short of this there are some easy steps that you can take to meet this requirement so contact us now for more information.
